Spring Cleanse Recipes

It’s normal to crave new things when the seasons change and I’m willing to bet 95% of us are more excited to eat spring vegetables this week then we are another bowl of heavy chili. But, my spring craving to eat clean is stronger then it’s ever been. At first I was somewhat confused by this – I maintain a steady diet of whole foods so what was up with the urge to do something drastic!? Suddenly it hit me. Yes, I am rushing through my own meals while trying to feed everyone else in the house (and this is a problem) but that wasn’t the motivation behind starting a 7 day cleanse.

The thing is, I have been pregnant or nursing a baby for 56 out of the past 69 months. This is a long time. I am closing this chapter of my life which is both strange and exciting. For the first time in a long while, I am inspired to experiment with my body and not worry about a small boy who is depending on it. Today is day 6 of my 7 day Standard Process cleanse. This is the first organized cleanse I have ever done and love the experience. Here are my favorite smoothies and salads from the week.

Blue & Green Smoothie

1 banana

1/2 cup blueberries

1/2 an avocado

1/2 cup cucumber

1 cup ice cubes or water

2 scoops SP Complete powder

Breakfast Fruit Smoothie

1 apple

1 banana

1/2-inch piece fresh ginger root, peeled

1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted (I do this by putting the jar of coconut oil in a bowl of hot water then pouring out a spoonful)

1 cup ice cubes or water

2 scoops SP Complete powder

Purple & Green Slaw

2 cups purple cabbage, shredded

1/4 cup red onion, sliced thin

1/2 cup cucumber, sliced

1/2 an avocado

Handful of pumpkin seeds

1 lime, juiced

2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

Kosher salt and black pepper

Simply toss everything together and let the slaw sit for a few minutes to allow the lime and oil to slightly soften up the vegetables.

Rainbow Salad

1 beet, shredded on a box grater

2 cups baby arugula

1/2 an avocado, sliced

1/2 a grapefruit, sliced

Handful sunflower seeds

1 lemon, juiced

2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

Kosher salt and black pepper

Simply arrange everything in a large bowl and top with lemon, oil, salt, and pepper.

PS. The males are not cleansing. In fact they are eating bowls of this pasta and loving it.
